Join Dr. Jeffrey Bozanic, Hyperbaric Chamber Supervisor and 37-year volunteer with the USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber, for an engaging behind-the-scenes look at one of the region's busiest diving recompression facilities. Through dramatic real-life case histories, photos, and practical explanations, you'll learn how diving injuries occur, how hyperbaric oxygen saves lives, and what every diver can do to reduce the risk of ever needing a chamber.
The presentation will include stories from Dr. Bozanic's time managing the recompression chamber at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, along with highlights from his recent scientific expeditions to the Antarctic Peninsula. He will conclude with a preview of his December 2027 Antarctica expedition, where divers and non-divers alike will have the opportunity to explore one of the most spectacular and remote places on Earth while participating in scientific research and citizen science projects. Speaker Bio: Jeffrey Bozanic is an internationally recognized technical diving educator, explorer, author, and hyperbaric specialist with more than four decades of experience in diving medicine, scientific diving, and expedition leadership. He has served as a volunteer with the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber since 1989 (more than 37 years) and is currently a Hyperbaric Chamber Supervisor, providing emergency recompression treatment and training for injured divers.
Dr. Bozanic also managed the recompression chamber at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, where he supported the U.S. Antarctic scientific diving program. He has participated in numerous Antarctic expeditions, including leading a 2026 Explorers Club Flag Expedition, and is currently organizing a youth- and science-focused expedition to Antarctica in December 2027. His presentation combines decades of operational hyperbaric experience with firsthand stories from one of the region's busiest diving recompression facilities and from the polar regions.
